What's included
- $0 cost on most generic medications for employees and family
- Substantial discounts on brand-name prescriptions
- Specialty medication discounts (oncology, autoimmune, etc.) through partner networks
- GLP-1 access through the weight health program (see related)
- Compound pharmacy network for personalized formulations
How it works in practice
Prescriptions are sent to a participating pharmacy. At the counter, the employee presents the program card or app code. The pharmacy applies the discount - for most generics this means $0 out of pocket. Brand-name and specialty meds are processed at the discounted rate. This does not replace prescription coverage on the employee's primary plan; it operates as a separate discount benefit (federal law prohibits a person from having two prescription plans).
A family on 4–6 maintenance generics typically saves $300–$900 per year. Brand-name discounts can save substantially more for chronic conditions.
How it integrates with existing coverage
Sits alongside the employee's primary prescription coverage. Federal law prohibits dual prescription plans - this is structured as a discount plan specifically to be compliant.
Limitations
Being honest about what the benefit doesn't cover is more useful than pretending everything is included:
- Not a prescription insurance plan (compliance reason - see above)
- Some specialty medications require manufacturer assistance programs that the program helps coordinate, not directly cover
- Pharmacy network coverage varies; over 95% of US pharmacies participate
